Amálias 100
A tribute of a generation of women in wine
21 August, 2024
Seven passionate wine producers from different regions in Portugal accepted the Amália Rodrigues Foundation’s challenge to produce a wine to commemorate the centenary of Amália’s birth.
Seven women gave their creativity and knowledge to pay tribute to a greater than life artist that symbolizes the Portuguese soul:
Rita Nabeiro from Adega Mayor (Alentejo) Francisca Van Zeller from Van Zellers & Co, Maria Manuel Maia from Poças, Luísa Amorim from Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo (all from the Douro) Rita Cardoso Pinto from Quinta do Pinto (Lisboa), Mafalda Guedes from Sogrape (many regions in Portugal) and Catarina Vieira from Herdade do Rocim (Alentejo and Lisboa).
The wine is called Amálias 100 and the proceeds of the selling of this wine go to the Amália Rodrigues Foundation and for the institutions it supports as well as for restoration works on Amália Rodrigue’s house, head office of the foundation.
Amálias 100 is a red wine from the 2020 harvest (Amália’s centenary year) With grape varieties from different regions, this blend highlights the excellence and quality of Touriga Nacional (27%); Alicante Bouschet (26%); Alfrocheiro (20%); Touriga Franca (13%); Trincadeira (7%); and Field Blend Vinhas Velhas (7%).
