Douro Boys
United by friendship and a common goal — to show the world the greatness of the Douro — Cristiano van Zeller was one of the five founders of the Douro Boys in 2003. From then until 2025, Cristiano van Zeller has been proud to be part of this journey, taking the wines and the spirit of the Douro to wine lovers around the world. The faces behind these “Douro lads,” who came together in 2003 with equal parts enthusiasm, love for wine, and professional dedication, were Dirk Niepoort of Niepoort; João Ferreira Álvares Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira of Quinta do Vallado; Cristiano van Zeller of Van Zellers & Co; Francisco “Xito” Olazábal of Quinta do Vale Meão; and Tomás and Miguel Roquette of Quinta do Crasto. In 2025, the time has come for Van Zellers & Co to bid farewell. We raise a glass to the journey that lies ahead for the Douro Boys — and thank them for the camaraderie, the memories, and the many lessons shared, which we proudly carry forward with us.
